He served as managing director of the Economic Hardship Reporting Project (EHRP), a non-profit newsroom founded by the legendary labor writer Barbara Ehrenreich ("Nickel & Dimed"). David executive produced EHRP’s podcast “Going for Broke With Ray Suarez,” which won the Excellence in Financial Journalism Award and he co-edited the acclaimed book, "Going for Broke: Living on the Edge in the World's Richest County," which Kirkus hailed as a "penetrating collection that is certain to challenge the readers’ views of those living in poverty."

A longtime advocate for journalists, David sued the Bloomberg Administration, when New York City refused to provide credentials to online journalists. In 2000, he founded one of the first online syndication companies Featurewell.com, which paid the majority of revenues to contributors.
